Hi, everyone! Welcome to the 2nd NA Crush Tourney hosted here at NA Alley!
Be aware there maybe spoilers in some of the advocate posts that support the new adult heroes. We’ve allowed the advocates to use excepts from their assigned NA Crushes’ books as well as other teasers, so just be mindful of that when you read the posts.
Matches will run for 24 hours, 12 a.m. to 12 a.m. EST every Tuesday and Thursday. Voting will only take place here on NA Alley, and the polls don’t allow multiple votes.
TRAVIS(Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire)
Hello, everyone! My name is Kelli, and I am reporting for advocate duty from the fabulous blog, Seeking Book Boyfriends! I have the supreme honor of representing my Book Husband, the one and only, TRAVIS MADDOX!! I am ecstatic that I was chosen for the task!
By now, EVERYONE should have met this crush, but if not --- he's the underground fighter and leading man of Beautiful Disaster, Walking Disaster and A Beautiful Wedding by Jamie McGuire. My goals are to prove to all my fellow readers that Travis is THE #1 book boyfriend and get him that NA Crush championship title he deserves!
Why should I vote for Travis? What makes him worthy?
Let's start with the most obvious part, his looks:
"My eyes traveled upward; jeans spattered with blood, a set of finely chiseled abs, a bare, tattooed chest drenched in sweat, and finally, a pair of warm, brown eyes."
"Lean muscles stretched under his tattooed skin..."
"He oozed sex and rebelliousness with his buzzed brown hair and tattooed forearms..."
Oh! And don't let me forget to mention his dimple, which adds even more to his beautiful smile. Le sigh! A gorgeous face and a killer body? SIGN ME UP!
Looks aren't everything. I know this. Thankfully, Travis is more than a pretty face and hot body! Let's move on to his PERSONALITY.
Yes, I think it's safe to say Travis is a bad boy. He's dubbed Eastern University's Walking One Night Stand for a reason. BUT - don't let that fool you! Behind his cocky persona lies a sensitive guy who cares about his friends and family. He's also fiercely protective of those he loves, especially once he falls head over ass for Abby Abernathy.
Though he had a rough childhood, he still loves his brothers and dad. The loss of his mother at the age of 3 altered his outlook on life. Growing up the youngest of four mean brothers prepared him to be an underground fighter. Plus, his reputation around campus makes him untouchable. And that temper! He gets physical with people (during fights, and for those who threaten Abby), but I feel it shows his protective nature. It's also how he deals with his feelings. Between you and me, I like a guy with some passion or a slight temper. Someone who is always agreeable is BO-RING! I need something more in my BBFs. But he has a sweet side, too. He cooks Abby dinner, buys her favorite foods, gets her a puppy for her birthday, but most importantly, HE CHANGES HIS ENTIRE LIFESTYLE for her.
"I knew the second I met you that there was something about you I needed. Turns out it wasn't something about you at all. It was just you."
Suh-woon! Are you guys getting it yet?
What else could there be?
- Travis isn't a dumb jock. He's so intelligent that he doesn't have to study and pulls straight A's!
- He rides a motorcycle. Yep. A Harley Night Rod, to be exact.
- He threw Abby a surprise birthday party, and then held her hair back as she was sick from drinking too much. Then, he slept with her on the bathroom floor all night, just so she wouldn't be alone.
- He tattooed her nickname on his wrist.
- Travis stayed in a burning building in order to seek out Abby and rescue her.
- He took a spontaneous trip to Las Vegas in order to make Abby his wife. While still in college.
Still not convinced? Let's hear about Travis in the words of others. His cousin, Shepley:
"I don't know what's going on with you and Travis, but I know that he's going to do something stupid to piss you off. It's a tic he has. He doesn't get close to anyone very often, and for whatever reason he's let you in. But you have to overlook his demons. It's the only way he'll know... If you'll climb over the wall."
Abby's best friend, America:
"I know for a fact that if you looked Travis in the eye and told him you wanted him, he would never look at another woman again."
From his mother:
"Of all my boys, Travis is the most tender hearted. He is also the strongest. He will love you with everything he has for as long as you let him."
"If Travis is anything like his father, and I know that he is, he's a deep ocean of fragility, protected by a thick wall of swear words and feigned indifference. A Maddox boy will take you all the way to the edge, but if you go with him, he'll follow you anywhere."
"And when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever."
And then, from the woman who stole his heart, Abby:
"This whole thing might play out to be a completely wonderful, beautiful disaster, but I want that if it's with you."
"You, Travis Maddox, are kinda sexy when you're not being a whore."
"In another life, I could love you."
"It wasn't just me, and it wasn't just him, it was what we were together that was the exception."
Misunderstood by many, but loved by far more, Travis is indisputably the BEST book boyfriend to come along in years. He doesn't realize his own worth, which only adds to my affections for him:
"I know you deserve better than me. You think I don't know that? But if there was any woman made me for me... it's you. I'll do whatever I have to do, Pidge. Do you hear me? I'll do anything."
"You need to walk away, Pidge. God knows I can't walk away from you."
"I never once convinced myself that I was good enough for you."
The man breaks my heart! He's possessive, and good hearted and will go to the ends of the Earth in order to make Abby happy.
"I need to hear you say it. I need to know you're mine."
He laid his feelings on the line, publicly, in order to win her over:
"To douchebags!" he said, gesturing to Brad. "And to girls that break your heart," he bowed his head to me. His eyes lost focus. "And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her."
Abby Abernathy is the luckiest fictional woman, and readers worldwide agree that they'd even be Megan for a day just to get a shot at Travis.
I'm pretty sure I've made a great case for Travis! Just in case you're still on the fence and debating voting against him, here's a video I made - a mock movie trailer for Beautiful Disaster, featuring Colton Haynes as Travis Maddox. Just imagine if Travis made it to the big screen!
So, that's it! I hope you're convinced that there is no better BBF than Travis Maddox. Please make sure to vote, and get all your friends to vote, as well! If you want to help further, join our Facebook group HERE.
And don't forget to use #TeamTravisMaddox and #NACrushTourney on Twitter and Facebook to show your support! But most importantly - VOTE!
(Cursed Love by T.H. Snyder)
Hello! My name is Lori Garside and I am the sole owner and operator of LD Garside’s Freelance Editing, and both The Chronic Romantic and Garside’s Book Bets blogs. I am very proud to be the advocate for the angst ridden, but exceptionally lovable Lincoln Minzotto from Cursed Love by t.h. snyder!
Linc - as we affectionately call him - had a moment in his childhood that forever changed his life. He witnessed the murder of his best friend’s mother (he and Daulton were hiding in the closet). He left home after his high school graduation to escape the hell his life had become. He’d been gone for 9 years when his parents were killed in an accident:
“The day after graduation, Daulton and I packed up our cars and made our way to Birmingham, Alabama to start our new lives. We didn’t know anyone where we were going and that made it that much better. We were setting out on a journey with no idea what would happen when we got there. All we had was each other, the only thing we ever really had…we were okay with that.”
“She (his sister Mimi) didn’t understand that one of the reasons I left was because I didn’t want other people making choices for me. I wasn’t like them; I didn’t want to be a politician or a lawyer. Even though both Shelton and Mimi chose the path of our parents, it didn’t mean that I had to as well.”
Linc is a strong man who left home at 18, met a man who became his mentor and father. A man who showed him how to turn his artistic talent into a lucrative career. He is tall, dark, tatted, and handsome as sin! Here is how his tenant and co-worker describes him in their first meeting:
“His dark brown hair is covered with a baseball hat and his dark eyes hold a secret mystery behind them. From his head to his toes, he’s wearing a blue t-shirt with Ominous written across the chest and faded jeans. His arms are covered in black designs filled in with colors of incredible ink. A chain hangs from his belt linking to his back pocket and he’s wearing a black pair of Chucks. I bring my eyes back to his to see that he’s studying me with the same intent look.
Extending my hand in front of me, I watch as he looks down at my arm. He’s covered in tattoos so I know he’s not judging me on my appearance. I mean, come on, I might have my own sleeves of ink and blue hair, but there’s no need to stare. He clears his throat and looks at me and then back down to my hand. What the hell? I’m just trying to be polite. What’s a girl got to do to get a handshake and a hello? Whatever. I might as well initiate our introductions. “Hi, I’m Gretchen, but just call me Etty.” His eyes glance from my hand to my eyes. I feel like he’s sucking me in with his soul. Those eyes are so dark, his demeanor so closed off…who the hell is this guy?”
Linc is emotionally closed off, but involved with Jo. To him, she’s just a ‘fuck buddy’, but she is in love with him.
“The sweat is falling from my forehead onto her back. I pull out and rip the condom off just as she turns around to wrap her arms around my neck. She pulls me into her and kisses me harder than ever before. She pulls away right before saying, ‘Linc, I love you.’”
And Linc, being the emotionally stunted man that he is, shuts down completely!
Why the fuck does she love me? She’s ruined everything we’ve had by saying those three little words. I’ve always wanted to hear them, but I never did from the people who mattered the most.
Those words are poison to my ears…no, no, no!
“As I lie in bed next to the girl whose heart I’ve crushed, I think about what we could have had if I was the kind of guy that was able to give her what she needs. But I’m not that guy and it’s not something I can fix.
She’s better off without me. Jo is beautiful, smart, and funny as hell. She’ll find the man that’s right for her; she just needs to wait for him to notice her and fall in love with her. It’s what she deserves and I want nothing more than for her to be happy.
My body starts to relax and I can feel myself falling into a deep sleep. With Jo next to me, I know that the terrors of my dreams will fall to the side for at least one more night.”
Well, Jo leaves after that life and relationship altering night. And Linc is hurt and confused by her abandonment. He doesn’t understand why anyone would love HIM. But Etty teaches him to acknowledge and understand that he truly loves Jo. Etty shows him that he is NOT responsible for Daulton’s mother’s murder. That he had no control, as a child, over his family’s response to that horrible night, nor their treatment of him. That he is a good man, a loving man; and that he’s a man who deserves happiness, and to love and BE loved.
He matures into the man he was always destined to become:
“No, Jo, it’ll never be too late for us. I’ve missed you since you’ve been gone. You’re all that I’ve thought about for days. Maybe it was good to have some time apart, but one thing is for sure—I know now more than ever how important you really are to me. Etty has helped me see a whole new side of me that I’ve hidden from for far too long.”
“I don’t want to run from you anymore, Linc. I want nothing else but to fall into your arms and have you tell me that we’re going to be okay.” “Come here, baby,” I say, extending both arms out to her. “Fall into me and I’ll be sure to always catch you.”
Lincoln Minzotto is the NA Book Crush Tourney’s man that I can not only love, but that I can respect. He is a strong man. A Proud Man. He is a lover, a teacher, a talented artist, and a loyal friend. He is a man afraid that he is incapable of love, but learns he is wrong. When you read his story in ‘Cursed Love’ you will see, too, why Linc should be your crush.
