Hey, guys! Carrie here. As you know, I’m the Alley’s resident marketing geek, and that means I heart research—even the informal, nonscientific kind. That’s why we’re conducting a quick survey... ;)

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11azWlI7c55RVILYRuH1UL4V2ak7VVUEnOxFa5mgMgYA/viewformREADERS / BLOGGERS
This is your chance to tell NA authors what you want and how you want it. Make your voice heard!

WRITERS / INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
If you want to take advantage of this information, you need to feed the machine. Fill out the survey, and then ask your followers to do the same. It'll only take a minute or two.

Need another reason? How about three? In 2014, we’ll have:
  • A better look at the evolved definition of NA.
  • Insight into which genres have untapped audiences.
  • Fun! Just kidding. That was a weak answer. We’ll get a better feel for who’s reading and supporting NA. I might even put the data in a pretty infographic...

So please, let us know where you stand. We would love to (anonymously) hear from you!

Question(s) of the Week: Are you going to fill out the survey? Would you do it for a Scooby Snack? How about a 50% off coupon for COURAGE at Smashwords? Because there's a code at the end of the survey--for the book, not the Scooby Snack. ;)

P.S. Happy Veteran’s Day to all who’ve served!

  5. Surprised I had to enter regular historical fiction under the "Other" category in two of the questions. I know mine isn't a popular genre at the moment, but I at least expected to see it listed by itself!

    1. Don't be too surprised. I had just manually entered nearly two hundred countries for this survey. I had a feeling I was going to miss at least one person's genre. ;) Sorry about that.

  13. I hope New Adult ends up expanded to sub categories of lit fic as well. I want to see more NA Palanuks.

  14. I personally want to see much less sex. It feels like a lot of NA is just erotica and I don't want to read that. I want to read about characters my own age who aren't sex crazed freaks.

    1. Me too! In most of the books I've read this year, it actually detracted from the plot--assuming there was one.

I mean, I enjoy sexy times as much as the next girl. I just need something substantial to go with it. Personal preference!

    2. I'm thinking written in such a way where the romance is stated more than the actual sex. But there is nothing like a short story, where you suspect they may have had sex. But it's not stated outright.
