Hey, everyone! Continuing on with NA Stars week (to see Jennifer Echols' interview scroll down!) we have another special guest here today!

Monica Murphy made her way onto the scene this year with her debut One Week Girlfriend. She's made the USA Today Best Sellers list and is a rockin' cheerleader for all things new adult.

Check out the interview, and don't forget to enter in the giveaway she's so graciously offered below!

How did you personally get into NA, and why did you choose to write about college-aged protagonists?

Well, over the years I've submitted books to publishers and have been told more than once, your characters are too young/sound too young/etc. I'd dabbled with YA projects but they really are too young for my personal tastes (though I love reading them). So when all of these wonderful, amazing, addicting NA books started appearing, I gobbled them up. I made my first attempt at a true NA and ended up with ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND.

My character Fable has been with me for years, though. I attempted a YA for Fable back in 2009 and entered a few contests. Failed miserably too.

Coming soon!

Why did you choose to self-publish your books? If you tried traditional publishing first what made you decide to go the other route?

Self-publishing was my first choice with this book/series. I like having the control - as in, I can change up pricing, the cover, the blurb, etc. if things aren't working. Plus, the NA subgenre is so hot right now, to attempt submitting to a publisher would probably take too long. I'm so thankful readers discovered OWG and have fallen in love with Drew and Fable. I'm in love with them, too.

You write mostly contemporary new adult. What made you decide to write in this genre of NA?

My preference for writing in general is contemporary romance. I gravitate toward it both for reading and writing. But I don't think the NA subgenre is limited to just contemporary. That's what's so amazing about NA in general - it's far reaching and everyone can relate to it. I was talking to a friend of my husband's and telling him what New Adult is all about. He nodded in agreement and smiled, saying everyone can relate to that time. He's so right because we all go through that period of life!

Thanks for joining us today on The Alley, Monica!

About the Author:

Monica Murphy is a writer, a wife and a mom. She drinks too much coffee and spends too much time in front of her computer. She likes to read, she watches bad reality TV and she sometimes acts younger than she really is. Though most of the time she's sure her kids think she's a complete buzz kill.
