Day number THREE of NA Stars week and we have another big one for you! (If you missed the posts with Jennifer Echols and Monica Murphy just scroll down ;D)
Author Abbi Glines is here to discuss the wonderful category of new adult of course! And she's graciously offered signed copies of her New York Times Bestseller Fallen Too Far and a copy of her wonderful novel The Vincent Boys!
I met Abbi last year at a Chicago indie signing and she is such a strong supporter of all-things NA!
Now, for the interview!
How did you personally get into NA?
My first book was Breathe. It is about a 17-year-old girl and a 19- year-old rock star. It fit neatly in the lines of YA. However, there is a guy in Breathewho is 20-- Marcus Hardy. He became a favorite. So when I decided to give him a story I knew it would have to be for a college age crowd. It wouldn't be sweet and clean like Breathe because that isn't exactly believable. I ventured into the world of sexy NA with Marcus's story, Because of Low.
After writing Because of Low, I realized I liked it so much more! I enjoyed writing sexy scenes and deeper issues that come with age. Not to mention college is a fun time in your life. As you get older you don't look back to your high school years as fondly as you do your college years. There are lifetime friendships formed there. The love of your life is often found there. It's a great time.
Why did you choose to self-publish your books?
I published Breathe through a small indie publisher. After doing that, I learned to reach out to readers and market my book on my own. So, when the idea for The Vincent Boys came to me I knew it would be pushing the envelope with the YA guidelines even though they are seniors in high school. The sexy scenes in The Vincent Boys would be hard to get a publisher interested in... or so I thought. I chose to self publish it and after its success decided that was the route I wanted to go.
Things did change once Simon & Schuster came into the picture. I wanted to see my books on book store shelves. Plus, I really liked what S&S had to offer. They're a great publisher with proven excellence.
I do still self publish. My newest book is a self published book, Fallen Too Far. Although many of my other titles are USA TODAY bestsellers. Fallen Too Far is my first New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. I believe that in this day and age that a writer can be both traditional and indie.

I love contemporary. I'm not a big paranormal fan even though I have a paranormal series. Contemporary comes to me easily. I have stories in my head all the time battling to get out first.
Thanks so much for stopping by NA Alley Abbi!
