Happy Monday, Alley Goers! It's Bailey here on the blog all week, and as usual, I'm happy my Monday has come back around on the calender.

It’s November.

This obvious statement means the beginning of end-of-year craziness. You may be participating in National Novel Writing Month. Or, maybe you've done the math and realize there are only 7 Mondays left until Christmas, and that's just not enough time at all for school, work, and holiday shopping. Or, perhaps you're waiting (impatiently) for late Fall book releases.

This November and December, as the air grows colder (not here in Texas, though) and we all become a little frantic, important things like reading for fun! can get knocked off the priority list. Well, here in the Alley, something like that sounds just awful. So we're making sure you get a little bit of you time mixed with a little bit of reading time as the normal slide into the holidays picks up speed.

Alley Reads is the New Adult Online Book Club hosted by me, Bailey, every seven weeks here in the Alley. Alley Reads is designed to be a leisurely book club, giving all of us a chance (and the motive) to tackle that NA reading list while still managing other life priorities.

Look below for the details!

The Book -- The Big Smoke by Cally Jackson

The description, taken from Jackson's own website:

"Ceara’s desperate for love; Seb’s desperate to get laid. Ceara adores reading novels; Seb hasn’t finished a book in years. Two strangers, both moving from small country towns to Brisbane – the big smoke. As they prepare to attend the same university, their paths seem set to collide, but they keep missing each other. Maybe fate is keeping them apart, or maybe it’s just chance.
When the semester starts, things get complicated. Ceara’s best friend withdraws from her, Seb’s closest mate turns into a sleazebag, and the relentless demands of university make their stress levels soar. Before their first semester is over, both Seb and Ceara will be forced to question who they are and what they want from their lives. Will they have the courage to find the answers, or will they crumble under the pressure? And when they finally meet, will it be love at first sight or a collision of headstrong personalities?”

You can buy an e-copy of The Big Smoke from Amazon and Smashwords, as well as iBooks, Kobo, Nook, and Diesel Books for just $2.99.

The Discussion -- All Day in the Comments & Live Evening Chat

To discuss The Big Smoke, just return to the Alley on Wednesday, December 19 where I will kick-off a comment thread chat with a post about my thoughts & discussion questions. The comment thread discussion will be open all day, and the post content will be refreshed every few hours as your discussion moves us forward.

That evening, I will be hosting a live chat here in the Alley with a fancy blog-chat application -- specific details about this live chat book discussion will be released here on Wednesday, December 12.

What To Do Now?

  1. Read The Big Smoke before Dec. 19
  2. Return to the Alley on Dec. 19 for book discussion
  3. Repeat with the next Alley Reads book club meeting; the next title will be announced Dec. 19

Don’t forget to tell your friends about the Alley Reads online book club event by tweeting, blogging, and Facebook-ing all about it. As always, you do not need to follow NA Alley to participate in this event, but following this blog does ensure that you’ll receive updates about this & future events taking place in the Alley.

Have a happy Monday! I'm around all week here and on the Twitter blog account, and don't forget we have an Agent in the Alley pitch contest this Wednesday, November 7 with Julia Weber!

    1. Well, Margaret, that is why you have until Dec. 19 to read this book! This is, as I said, a leisurely book club and the books I am choosing can be read at any pace! We discuss a new book every 7 weeks -- though, I imagine many of these books won't take nearly that long to read!
