Hey, all!  I'm back with another feature on this beautiful Friday morning!  Before I introduce today's feature, I wanted to announce the winner of the previous Feature Friday's author, Magan Vernon, and her book My Paper Heart.  And that lucky winner is:  Christine Simons!  Magan will be contacting you shortly.

Now, today's feature is with author SM Blooding about her book, The Hands of Tarot!

She killed his father. She imprisoned and beat him. And now she thinks he’s her trophy.

Synn El’Asim will do almost anything to prove her wrong. But he’s only proving her right.

Queen Nix awakened his Mark of power and inducted him into the House of Wands. She knew what she was doing. The son of the two most powerful Families standing against her is the ultimate prize.

What she didn’t take into consideration was that maybe he was too strong for her.

Maybe.

The Families aren’t. They’ve been weakened, and it’ll take a lot more than one young man with a powerful Mark to take on the Hands of Tarot.

Describe your main characters:
Synn is a boy with a lot of potential. He has a lot of love and respect for the ways of his Family, loves his airship and traveling the Sky. He literally thinks the world is his. Then Queen Nix gets a hold of him, and his view of everything shifts. His eyes are forced open. He’s forced to see what’s really going on in the world around him, how everyone’s being affected by the Hands of Tarot. In this book, he struggles to discover if he has what it takes to make a difference. It’s so neat to watch this unravel for him.

Queen Nix is just deliciously EVIL! She sexy and toxic. She can wrap men around her finger without even thinking about it. I didn’t realize her full power until people started reading the book and they Tweeted me about her! People don’t just hate her, nor do they love to hate her. They love her. *helpless shrug* She just has this…allure that’s amazing and poisonous at the same time.

What was your favorite scene in your book?

There were so many. I would have to say that my favorite is where Ino Kilak (the Ino witch) opens a portal to Nix, allowing her to be in Ino City briefly so that Synn can see what he gave up. He feels her control over him, and it’s just…that level of “Ohhhhhh, diiiirt!” hits his gut. It’s where he really sits down and asks himself if he has what it takes to go against her.

What was the hardest part of the book for you to write?
The air battle at the end of the book. It’s not the fact that there’s so much going on. There is. Everyone’s in different planes. They’re all flying around. There’s a lot of ruckus, and I’m not keeping track of everyone. It really wasn’t necessary.

It was the fact that there was so much knowledge that I needed to have! I didn’t realize it until I started writing the scene, and then I was like, “SELF! You need to do more RESEARCH!” What I really needed to do was get into a bi-plane and fly, but that didn’t happen. I’ll probably have to do something like that for book 2. *grin* Oh, bummer.

What compelled you to write your book?
I killed my main characters in a different series. I was just so heartbroken. It wasn’t intentional, but no matter how I played out the battle, we lost every time. I was wracked.

So I decided I needed to write something completely different. While I was writing The Hands of Tarot, I discovered that thing I was missing inside myself was courage. This book became the outlet for me to discover my own courage. I had to figure out how to see myself as someone worth fighting for, or that I mattered in fighting for others. It’s amazing how those inspirations don’t hit you in the face until you’re close the end, someone asks you, “Why this book?”

Uh…because it was cool? Yeah. It was. But it wasn’t what drove me. I really cannot WAIT to get to book 2!! It’s going to be so much FUN! Well, at least for me! LOL!

Now, about you in a few words (bio):
I live in Colorado with my pet rock, Rockie, their Ms. Bird, who’s a real bird. I like to hike the beautiful Rocky Mountains, and I’m learning to play the piano and guitar. So far, it’s going…well, better. I’ve dated vampires, werewolves, sorcerers, weapons smugglers and bagpipe playing US Government assassins. I’m not kidding. I’m also an local paranormal investigation group, Colorado Paranormal Rescue where I’ve finally graduated to something other than holding the flashlight! I hold the voice recorder.

What’s your favorite New Adult title?
Tempest by Julie Cross! I love the take on time travel! The Voice of the book just sucked me in! I really enjoyed it.

Why do you write New Adult?
Young Adults are in this really fascinating state of constant discovery! They’ve been taught what they need to know. Their brains are telling them they’re capable of taking on the world. And they fail so epically! I love all of that.

New Adults are all that…and they handle more mature conflict. They’re being introduced in the Big People world. I love the fact that we get to reach out a touch the more mature issues without having to dance around it. And if there’s a kiss, I don’t have to worry about my “mommy voice” coming out and breaking out the gun…on the imaginary boy…kissing my 16-year-old protagonist. @_@

What books is sitting on your TBR pile that you can’t wait to read?
Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick. I still haven’t read it! I just can’t wait!!!

If you could have dinner with any author, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Delilah S. Dawson. She’s just such a hoot and she just got a voodoo flamingo. *shakes head* If that isn’t my kind of gal, I don’t know who is.

Your favorite quote from any book.
“Man worships self: his God is man; the struggling of the moral mind to form its model as ‘twould be, the perfect of itself to find.” The Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack, by Mark Hodder

What’s up next?
Currently, it’s The Nightmare, book 2 of my adult paranormal romance series, Dreamland Stories.
But then, it’s The Knight of Wands, book 2 of The Hands of Tarot! I am so excited! This book is literally screaming at me to write! I just can’t wait! It’s going to be so much fun! The things that are going on inside my head right now. LOL!! Just wait!
